The prestigious Poetry Council of North Carolina has awarded Sara 2nd place for  Howling on Red Dirt Roads in the competitive Oscar Arnold Young Contest.

Sara Claytor's fiction and poetry have appeared in over a hundred publications, including: New Press Literary Quarterly; Miller’s Pond; California Quarterly; Frontiers: A Journal of Women’s Studies; Spire; The Crucible; The Pedestal Magazine; The Savannah Literary Journal; Pisgah Review.


Featured poet for L’Intrigue and winner of the 2000 Thunder Rain Award in poetry, Sara has received numerous poetry prizes. Two of Sara's short stories have received first place in the Sensations Magazine competition.  She also placed first in short fiction at the Charlotte Writer’s Club (Elizabeth Simpson Smith Award) and the Virginia Highlands Festival.
